WHERE: in Chanoux Square.
HISTORY: The building of the Town Hall, in neoclassical style, was completed in 1841. It was built after the demolition of the monastery of St. Francis (founded in 1352) , in a strategic position, on the border between the "Bourg de Saint-Ours" and the "Cité" , two zones up to several decades before autonomous and equipped each of a Mayor and a Council. Outside the palace there are two fountains, which are the Dora Baltea and the Buthier (the two city main rivers). On the roof, stand out a clock and a sundial, while the facade houses the civic coat of arms. Inside the Hôtel de Ville, one can meet various busts and memorial plaques in honor of the most important people of the city and into the main hall, a model of the whole region can be seen. Worth mentioning , for the frescoes dating back to the second half of the nineteenth century, the Ducale Hall, seat of ceremonies and receptions.
On the square, named after the martyr of the Aosta Valley Resistance, stands the monument to the soldier (also known as the "Alpine"), created in 1924 by Piero Canonica. To the west of the Town Hall is the Hôtel des Etats, a building that dates back to 1730 and was the center of political and administrative life of the Aosta Valley, hosting the " Conseil des Commis". This organ, established March 7, 1536, was a sort of local parliament, dependent solely on the King. On the square several buildings of architectural merit also overlook.
